The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi maintains its commitment in having a strong homegrown healthcare workforce, which is one of its key strategic priorities.
In order to ensure the delivery of excellent healthcare services to the members of the Abu Dhabi community, and those visiting it from abroad, DoH has launched its Healthcare Workforce Upskilling programmes. The objective of the programmes is to upskill health professionals to guarantee they are competent with world-class knowledge, skills, and attributes. This comes in line with Abu Dhabi’s efforts in investing in the healthcare workforce, thus cementing the Emirate’s position as a global destination for healthcare.
Programmes Priority Areas
Primary Care Topics:
The programme covers 4 essential priorities:
- Chronic Disease Management (Diabetes)
- Cardiology
- Oncology
- Respiratory
The programme will enable and support Primary care Physicians to:
- Screen and diagnose common Internal Medicine illnesses with ease.
- Assess and manage simple and stable patients with confidence.
- Know when to refer a patient to the sub-specialty physicians.
- Understand how to monitor and address complications.
- Provide holistic care, addressing general health implications from comorbid medical conditions.
Mental Health Topics:
The programme covers 6 essential priorities:
- Mood disorders & psychosis.
- Anxiety disorders
- Dementia/ Old Age Psychiatry
- Substance Use Disorder
- Depressive Disorder
- Child and Adolescent psychiatry disorder
The programme will enable and support Primary care Physicians to:
- Screen and diagnose common Mental illnesses.
- Assess and manage simple and stable psychiatric disorders with confidence.
- Know when to refer a patient to Psychiatry.
- Understand how to monitor and address complications from Psychotropic medications.
- Provide holistic care, addressing mental health implications from comorbid medical conditions.
Genome Medicine Topics:
The programme will include two categories:
Short-term programme (face to face sessions):
- Premarital Screening
- Pharmacogenetics
Long-term programme:
- Genomic Medicine: Scholarship Fellowship Programme - Board certification
- Genomic Medicine: Local Fellowship Programme - Board certification
- Genetic Counseling: Two years Master - Master Degree
The programme will enable and support Primary care Physicians to:
- The ability to read the genomic report
- Assess, manage and delivering the finding to patients with confidence
- Know when to refer a patient to the sub-specialty physicians
- Understand how to monitor and address complications.Provide holistic care
- Mental and Physical support
All programmes participants should complete all courses within six months of enrollment
