To ensure that patients who require the most complex clinical procedures, receive them in a Centre of Excellence, which meets the necessary requirements to deliver these services with the best patient outcomes.

A CoE is a specialised and distinguished programme within DoH licensed healthcare facilities, accredited by the DoH to undertake very complex clinical procedures. In order to get the accreditation as a CoE, healthcare facilities need to demonstrate their capability, staffing, research, training and most importantly clinical outcomes.
These are the CoE with their standards published in the DoH website. Please note that there will be more specialities to follow:
- Adult Cardiac Surgery
- Hematopoietic Stem cell Transplantation
- Pediatric cardiac surgery

Yes, a non-UAE resident can be referred for treatment at a CoE. Payment would be either self-pay or by individual’s medical insurance coverage.
The Centre of Excellence clinical standards defines the necessary accreditations, including workforce requirement for a CoE.

A healthcare facility does not become a CoE. A CoE is specialised and distinguished programme within a DoH licensed Healthcare facility, which can provide an exceptionally high level of expertise and multidisciplinary resources centred on particular services and service. These services are delivered in a comprehensive, interdisciplinary fashion to achieve the best patient outcomes possible.
