DoH Reports 695 Childbirths via IVF in 2024

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the regulator of the healthcare sector in the Emirate, announced that Abu Dhabi has achieved an impressive over 51% success rate in IVF procedures, ranking among the highest globally. In 2024, specialised healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi delivered 695 childbirths through IVF. This exceptional achievement reflects DoH’s commitment to providing community members with high-quality healthcare services, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a leading global healthcare destination.
According to the World Health Organization, one in six adults battle infertility, affecting 17.5% of the global adult population. ART technologies offer hope and potential, turning distant dreams into a reality for those on their path to parenthood. The Emirate is constantly working towards addressing global fertility challenges, developing robust regulations and policies that ensure access to high-quality ART services in line with international standards and best practices.Dr. Fayeza Alyafei, the Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) said: “A significant portion of the global population faces fertility challenges, requiring urgent action from healthcare systems around the world. Abu Dhabi’s remarkable success rates in IVF procedures highlight the Emirate’s steadfast commitment to evolving our approach to reproductive health.”
Dr. Alyafei added: “Abu Dhabi has made significant strides in enhancing assisted reproductive medical services, becoming a destination for those seeking to obtain similar services from across the region. At the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, we aim to foster resilience and innovation to drive ART efforts forward, enabling us to improve patient outcomes and build a healthcare system that is proactive, adaptive and resilient.”To date, the Emirate is home to 14 licensed healthcare facilities providing assisted reproductive services, including the opening of two new facilities in 2024. More than 2,800 healthcare professionals continue to deliver comprehensive obstetrics and gynecology services, including 45 maternal and delivery facilities, 700 specialists and consultants, as well as 375 midwives.
Aadditionally, expertise extends to Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), reproductive medicine and infertility, anaesthesiology, critical care, and radiology as well as sonography, embryology and assisted reproductive surgeries. The Department continues to work closely with stakeholders across the sector to enhance services as well as advance investment in research, innovation and talent to meet the needs of all community members.
