DoH and ADPHC launch ‘Active Ramadan Challenge’, inviting the community to walk for better health
18 Mar, 2025:
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the healthcare regulator in the Emirate, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), has launched the Active Ramadan Challenge, inviting residents of all ages to embrace a healthier lifestyle during the holy month. The initiative encourages regular physical activity and balanced nutrition to boost overall well-being and reduce the risk of lifestyle-related diseases.
The three-week challenge is designed to make exercise a daily habit, starting with a goal of 5,000 steps per day in the first week, increasing to 8,000 in the second, and reaching 10,000 in the third. Participants can join by downloading the Sahatna app, logging in with their digital ID, and activating the “Wellness” feature to track their steps. Hitting the daily target automatically enters the participants into prize draws, offering exciting rewards such as attraction tickets, shopping vouchers, flight tickets, and more.Commenting on the initiative, H.E. Dr. Rashid Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, said: “We remain dedicated to achieving a successful transition from the traditional healthcare model to a more comprehensive approach that prioritises prevention and proactive well-being, ensuring healthier lives for all. This year, in the spirit of the holy month, we introduced the Active Ramadan Challenge, aligning with the objectives of the Year of the Community, encouraging everyone to embrace walking as a daily habit and support one another in adopting a healthier lifestyle that positively impacts both their physical and mental well-being.”
As part of the challenge, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre will host a series of community events and activities at various locations across the Emirate. For more information on the Active Ramadan Challenge, how to participate, and the schedule and venues for the activities, DoH and ADPHC encourage the public to follow their official social media channels for the latest updates, and to stay active on the Sahatna app to log their daily steps. ‘Sahatna’ is an integrated-mobile app that empowers residents to manage their own and their family’s health needs with ease. It offers seamless access to a wide range of health and wellness services, including appointment booking, teleconsultations, health records, and advanced features, all serving as a gateway to comprehensive health. For more information on Active Ramadan Challenge, please follow DoH on X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.
