DoH showcases its latest healthcare innovations at GITEX Technology Week

6 Dec, 2020: The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, will be participating in the GITEX Technology Week 2020 taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 6 to 10 December. DoH will be highlighting its achievements in mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic and will be displaying a set of innovations in healthcare technology that are expected to positively impact the healthcare sector in the emirate and world.

DoH will be part of the Abu Dhabi Digital Government pavilion and will review a number of healthcare innovations and technologies that helped the sector control and mitigate the spread of the pandemic and achieve continuity in all vital sectors. That in addition to highlighting innovations and research projects that the Department looks forward to supporting long-term, in order to advance the sector and improve patients’ experience.

For instance, DoH will showcase the ‘Abu Dhabi Health Workforce Management System’, which is a new digital platform that allows clinical staff from across the UAE to volunteer their support or work full or part-time at the emirate’s healthcare sector, by registering online through the portal and highlighting their key skillsets to provide support to the sector’s facilities in the emirate during the COVID-19 outbreak. That, in addition to highlighting the ‘Health Workforce Upskilling Platform’, which was developed since the onset of the pandemic, out of the necessity to train doctors, nurses, and health professionals who are not specialized in critical care medicine (ICU) – to empower and prepare them with the necessary skills needed to respond to emergencies and provide them with certified medical trainings that continuously develops them in accordance with the sector’s needs and international best practices.

DoH will also highlight the ‘Remote Exam Service (OnVUE Proctoring)’, which facilitated the process of having a professional examination by conducting it remotely under DoH’s supervision. This initiative was part of the DoH’s keenness to implement safety measures that preserve patients’ health without interrupting licensure examinations.

Among the projects included in the department's platform is the "Population Risk Management" project, which was developed by Malafi - the region’s first Health Information Exchange platform, that will safely and securely connect all public and private healthcare providers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The project facilitates more informed and efficient clinical decision-making, strengthens coordination and transfer of care, reduces unnecessary duplication of tests and procedures, reduces risks of medical errors, and improves patient experience and safety. That, in addition to providing ideas that support DoH and health care providers in promoting community health, by identifying, visualizing and predicting risks.

Additionally, DoH will review the ‘Predictive Modeling and Simulation for COVID-19’ which is a computer-based algorithm model that analyses the COVID-19 spread and predicts how the disease will develop in the short and long-term. This simulation contributes to developing proactive plans and implementing initiatives that strengthen efforts to address the virus, and ensure the health of society. It will also review the ‘Medical Education Hub (MEhub)’, which is the first health care cognitive platform that facilitates access to continuous medical education in Abu Dhabi. It also attracts consumers, service providers, investors and talents to transform Abu Dhabi into a global healthcare destination, enrich the platform and contribute to enhancing the quality of medical education in the emirate. The platform includes modern virtual education tools as well as artificial intelligence tools to enhance the efficiency of health professionals, and develop their skills in line with the Abu Dhabi healthcare sector and highest international standards.

H.E Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of DoH, said: “The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi succeeded in turning the COVID-19 challenges into opportunities to launch creative and innovative projects that combat said challenges, and achieve business continuity in all vital sectors in accordance with the highest standards of public health and safety. By participating in GITEX 2020, the Department looks forward to reviewing the recent digital projects and initiatives it launched at various levels, which have significantly contributed to enhancing the patient experience in the Emirate and opened new horizons for the development of the sector.”

Al Kaabi added: “DoH has been keen to harness the digital infrastructure of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to translate the belief of the leadership and the health sector that victory over this global pandemic and its consequences will only be through providing an opportunity for more ideas and innovations that contribute to strengthening the sector. By employing artificial intelligence tools, we seek to enhance health professionals’ efficiency and develop their skills in line with Abu Dhabi’s healthcare sector and highest international standards. The innovative projects presented by DoH today are the result of relentless efforts that spanned years of hard work from various stakeholders. They are a testament to the important position that Abu Dhabi has established as a leading destination in the healthcare sector, through the distinguished response to the pandemic and the quality of services it provides.”

The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi is inviting visitors to visit its stand and view the latest healthcare technologies and innovations, while taking into account all precautionary and preventive measures to maintain the health and safety of everyone. The stand is part of the Abu Dhabi Digital Government pavilion, located in Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum Hall, Stand No. S-A21.
