As part of GITEX Future Stars, Department of Health – Abu Dhabi provides incubation support to start-ups

7 Oct, 2019: As part of its participation at GITEX 2019, the Department of Health- Abu Dhabi (DoH), has been providing incubation support to a host of healthcare start-ups as through its presence at GITEX Future Stars, the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia's biggest start-up event. Participating for the second year running, DoH has been providing budding entrepreneurs within the healthcare sector with resources and opportunities to develop their ventures, with a view to enhance the outputs of the sector.

DoH played an instrumental role in bringing together several entities and institutions to further provide incubation support for healthcare startups at the event, including Plug and Play MENA, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), the Department of Economic Development's (DED) Takamul Program, and Medical Realities, a high-quality surgical training program which utilises Virtual Reality.

DoH's incubation efforts sought to support national start-up companies with patented creative ideas aimed at improving the healthcare sector's outputs. Among these, is DrOnCall, an application that allows patients to request the nearest doctor to attend to them at their home and Alpha Lympha, a start-up that was previously regonised at Takamul's Technology Innovation Pioneers (TIP) Healthcare Awards for innovation by inventing an organ-like chip to monitor real-time immune cells in the body. Another notable startup present at the event was "Wensk" whose technology aims to improve the efficiency of operations in healthcare facilities by up to 30%. It does so by integrating location technologies within healthcare facilities through an advanced and accurate system.

Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Director, Healthcare Quality Division at DoH commented: "DoH is deeply passionate about supporting start-ups, underscored by our belief that creative ideas can be harnessed to help strengthen the healthcare sector and enhance its outcomes"

Al Mannaei also added: "By participating in GITEX Future Stars, we have brought together key players who are able to accelerate these innovations and support the healthcare sector's involvement with leading startups in the industry seeking support and guidance to continue thriving."

In addition to its participation as part of GITEX Future Stars, DoH is also participating in the Abu Dhabi Government Pavilion at GITEX, showcasing a range of innovative projects including the Emergency Response System, Open Data Dashboards, the Malaffi platform, as well as Electronic Approvals for Birth Certification Projects. DoH is a supporter of the Supernova Challenge in the healthcare sector and one of the institutions participating in the HealthCare Innovation Cup.

DoH invites guests to visit its stand at the GITEX Future Stars at Zabeel Hall 4, Stand C1 and at the Abu Dhabi Government Pavilion at Sheikh Saeed Hall, Stand S-A21.
